Monster Trucks

For the first time in more than two decades, Windy Hollow Speedway will be hosting an All Star Monster Truck Tour event. It is scheduled for October, near the end of a packed lineup of events officials have planned for their 51st season.

Evelyn Myer, the Speedway’s operator, said recently that she was ecstatic to have the trucks return to town.

“Monster trucks were here in 1998 with a two-truck show and a ride-along truck,” Myer said. “So, for the first time in more than 20 years, they are back. But this time we will have a full show with multiple trucks and other action-packed events. I’m thrilled to be able to help facilitate such a great event for kids of all ages and their families.”

The All Star Monster Truck Tour is a national events-based organization that has stops from coast to coast. Unlike the trucks that have visited Owensboro in years past, tour organizers will be putting on a full show with four to six trucks, along with ATVs and motorcycles.

The ride-along truck will allow fans an additional ticketed opportunity to actually experience what it is like to be in a monster truck while the vehicle is in action.

In addition to the Monster Truck show, there will be events for the children and families taking place at the Speedway that weekend.

Tickets for the event, as well as the ride-along truck, will be available on the Windy Hollow Speedway website as the event gets nearer and more details are released.

Owensboro native Kegan DeWitt said he and his son Cruz will be thrilled to attend the show this fall.

“Monster trucks have been a love of my son’s for as long as I can remember,” DeWitt said. “We’ve traveled around the tri-state area to see various Monster Truck shows, and it’s great to have them right in our backyard at Windy Hollow Speedway.”

DeWitt says Cruz has been a huge fan of Monster Trucks since he received a model truck as a gift a few years ago. The father/son duo has been to shows in Evansville and Muhlenberg County, with plans to visit the Monster Jam Tour in Cincinnatti in September.

Along with the Monster Truck event, the Speedway will play host to weekly stock car racing events on Sundays, as well as events of all types on the dragstrip. The season is set to kick off on May 16.

Though the speedway has been operational for 51 years, 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the addition of drag racing to the Windy Hollow Speedway lineup. Several events will be held in honor of that milestone.
