The third annual Putt Putt Pub Crawl to benefit Building Stronger Families is scheduled for July 10. The event offers each team an opportunity to enjoy food and drink specials while navigating a miniature golf course that spans 12 locations.

This year’s event takes advantage of the “green cup rule,” which allows individuals to carry and consume alcohol in a specially marked 16 oz. cup from participating businesses while in a specific downtown area referred to as “The District.”

“It’s a really fun day — one of my favorite days of the year,” said event organizer Courtney VonGunten. “It’s a carefree environment that offers many opportunities to meet new people. It also promotes and supports our beautiful downtown.”

Registration begins at 11 a.m. at Lure Seafood and Grill with the event slated to begin with a “shotgun start” at noon. Participants will then play each hole in the order of their choice before turning their scorecards in by 4:30 p.m. at Bar Louie.

This year’s event features hole locations at Bar Louie, Burger Theory, Don Mario, Fetta Specialty Pizza, Lure, Mellow Mushroom, Mile Wide Brewery, Pub on Second, Riverpark Center, Ruoff Mortgage, Simply Chic, and SIP.

The team with the lowest score will receive prizes, along with the team with the best golf attire, as voted on by fellow golfers. Individuals can bring their own putters or use the ones provided at each hole. Golf balls are provided.

“The holes are very unique with some being elaborate and others not so much. Mellow Mushroom once constructed theirs entirely out of pizza boxes while Burger Theory had a waterfall in theirs,” VonGunten said. “People generally go over the top with their attire — several teams will have matching uniforms or shirts with clever golf sayings.”

The cost to participate is $20 per person and entry is limited to those 21 years old and over. Teams can register in advance here or in person the day of the event. Entry fees can be submitted by mail or in person at Ruoff Mortgage at 234 Frederica St. or via Venmo to @PPPC-2021.

The idea for the crawl was conceived by Jenny Stelmach, who assists VonGunten with organizing the event. Stelmach began the event in 2018 as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

This year’s benefactor, Building Stronger Families, is a free and voluntary program for families with children who aspire to be better parents. Using an evidence-based curriculum, the program educates parents on positive parenting skills, assists in setting and achieving goals, and connects parents to community resources.

“It is just a really beautiful thing to take it all in and watch our community come together for such a great cause,” VonGunten said. “It is a day filled with smiles, laughter, making new friends, and building stronger families.”
