Under the warm summer sun, Smothers Park was filled shoulder to shoulder with eager viewers of this year’s Owensboro Air Show, which was highlighted by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, a T-38 Talon and the U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor Demo Team among several other acts.

Tim Ross, director of public events for the City of Owensboro, said that although there were a few hiccups in regards to aircraft coming out, the weekend has gone tremendously. A final show is set for today from 12:30-4 p.m.

“Our crowds have been just outstanding. The energy with everybody has really just been fabulous,” Ross said.

Down near the river, several people came to Owensboro for their first Air Show. Lynn Darns has seen a few, but she brought her parents into town to enjoy the show for the first time, and they were eager to see the Blue Angels.

“I’m excited to be in the atmosphere and see everything,” Darns’ mother Linda Shaw said.

Other guests made a cross-country trip to see the air show, like Jim and Stephanie Bly who traveled from Los Angeles. Jim was a pilot in the show helping one of the pilots on a practice flight yesterday.

“Flying over, it’s a beautiful park,” Jim said. “I’m glad to be here.”
