The 35th annual Grant G. Talbott III Memorial Run will be held both in person and virtually this year. In-person participants will run the 5K on Nov. 6; virtual participants may choose their own path and complete the 5K from Nov. 4-6 and log their time online.

Owensboro Community & Technical College hosts the annual road race. All proceeds go to support OCTC students.

Race day registration and check-in is from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at OCTC’s main campus (4800 New Hartford Road). All preregistered participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt. Shirts are not guaranteed for late registrants. The entry fee is $25, and $10 for current OCTC students.

The 5K race/walk begins at 9 a.m. at Legion Park on East Byers Avenue and continues around Veach Road, ending at OCTC. Participants are asked to park on campus. A shuttle will transport participants to the starting line.

There will be door prizes, including a drawing for $250 cash. Participants must be present to win; only in-person participants are eligible for door prizes, drawings, and trophies. Awards and prize drawings will begin immediately following the race.

Local participants may pick up their shirts on race day or from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 at OCTC’s main campus in the Administration Building-Office of Resource Development.

The race is named in honor of Grant G. “GG” Talbott, who served as a counselor at OCTC for 10 years after retiring from Owensboro High School. He was a friend and mentor to many during his lifelong commitment to education. Talbott coordinated the road race from 1998-2007. This is one of the longest continuing races in the region.

This year, OCTC will also remember Carl Runyon (1951-2021), who taught English at OCTC for 35 years and was one of the founders of the 5K.
