The deadline to apply for a float in The People’s Christmas Parade is Dec. 1. The event is set for Dec. 18 starting at 4:30 p.m. and will be on 2nd Street. Organizers are continuing to work to finalize all the details.

Tricia Shyver, head of the parade committee, said they have about 50 floats already signed up and getting the number of floats locked in is crucial to moving forward with the planning of the Christmas parade.

To get a float registered, contact Sarah Barnes either by messaging her on Facebook or at 270-315-3960.

Shyver said they have partnered with different businesses within the community to help. One of those is TD’s Tough Decisions, which is offering 50% off costumes to participants, according to Shyver.

Organizers are working on choosing multiple grand marshalls. Tayvis Akpan, Julius Maddox, and veterans in the city were selected in the first round of voting. Another round of voting to determine more potential grand marshalls is happening now on their Facebook group.
