Care Net Owensboro was able to reach one of their highest turnouts for the 7th Annual Reindeer Run 5K starting at Smothers Park.

Lisa Merritt, Community Relations Coordinator for Care Net Owensboro, said there were nearly 600 registrants, which almost doubled their turnout for the last year when they went virtual.

Being back after having to go virtual helped the numbers grow and because of that, it impacts the mission Care Net sets out with their services.

Care Net provides free services to their clients including pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, STD testing and treatment among other services.

“I’m thankful and really grateful that the community is willing to come out and help support the run because it helps support Care Net,” Merritt said.

Along with the 5K they had a pre-run where children under age 7 got a chance to run in the Reindeer Dash. They also had the chance to run with Santa Claus and Rudy the Reindeer.

And staying true to the Reindeer Run tradition, they provided a chance for the runners to win outside of their times with the best-dressed runner.

Merritt said it was exciting to be back with everyone and be able to jump the attendance of just two years past even after a year of being off.
