Joey Chestnut, the world’s top-ranked competitive eater, will be returning to Owensboro on May 14 for this year’s Bar-B-Q Block Party.

Chestnut will be at a “Meat & Greet” presented by Kentucky Legend at their tent that Saturday from 12-1 p.m. Guests will be able to meet and take a photo with the champion eater. He will also be a celebrity judge for the Backyard Cooking Competition where teams compete in cooking the best chicken, beef, and pork meats for prize money.

“Having Joey back in Owensboro has been a goal of the Festival Board for several years. We always had great crowds watching the eating contest in years past, and we thought it would be a great opportunity for fans to get to meet him and for him to help judge the cooking completion,” Festival Board Chairman Allen Payne said.

The annual barbecue festival was sized down again this year to the “Block Party” that will take place May 13-14.

The cooking contest will still feature the chicken, beef and pork competitions for prize money. More than 30 teams are competing. Outside of the competition, there will also be the traditional carnival downtown along with food, drinks and live music on the front lawn of the Owensboro Convention Center.
