After a hiatus due to the pandemic, RiverWorks Discovery’s “Who Works the Rivers” event is back in Owensboro this Thursday. High school juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to learn more about the maritime industry by talking to professionals and engaging in interactive learning experiences.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Owensboro Museum of Science & History (122 East 2nd Street).

Through RiverWorks Discovery’s partnership with the museum, students will take part in engaging activities and discussion. In the morning, students take part in stations designed to foster understanding and share what products are shipped on rivers in Owensboro, while also creating activities they may encounter on the river.

Professionals with careers on the river will speak to the students, including representatives from Owensboro River Port Authority, Yager Marine, Traylor Bros, Crounse Corporation,

Rampstop, ADM/ARTCO, and United States Army Corps of Engineers.

A tour of the Owensboro Riverport Authority located at 1771 River Road will take place towards the end of the day. Through the tour, students will experience a close-up look inside the industry at work.
