Girls Inc. and the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce are accepting nominations for the 25th ATHENA Award. The prestigious award honors someone within the community who demonstrated professional excellence, devoted time and energy to the community, and assisted women in attaining their full leadership potential.

“We are elated to be able to again honor and highlight individuals who through their professional endeavors, passion and dedication have made a positive impact on women and our entire community,” ATHENA Chairperson Sue Napper said. “The input of the community through the nomination process is critical in identifying individuals, male or female, who embody the spirit of the award. It is especially exciting to celebrate the award’s 25th anniversary in our community.”

Nominations will be accepted through January 10. The banquet is set for March 28 at the Owensboro Convention Center.

In 1999, the local chapter of Girls Inc. began focusing on the award as a collaborative effort to recognize and celebrate the contributions of individuals in the community who have opened doors and enabled women to be self-sufficient and reach their full potential.

“The ATHENA Award has grown to be a major event in our community and we are hopeful that we can celebrate our mission and women, past and present, in our community. We are especially grateful for the chamber’s support throughout the past 25 years as well as that of the community and our sponsors,” Girls Inc. CEO Tish Correa-Osborne said.
