“The Art of Music” will be the theme for the 27th season of Friday After 5, which kicks off May 19. This season, organizers to fill downtown with bands, new community tourism partnerships, and “historic” announcements to come during the summer.

“We are thrilled at the outpouring of support this season for Friday After 5 by our community and their input of some fun ideas for this year,” said Francine Marseille, Executive Director of Friday After 5.

Kicking off with City Night on May 19, the City of Owensboro will showcase booths and vehicles. The festivities will also include a performance by the US Stones, a Rolling Stones tribute band, at the Jagoe Riverfront Live Stage along the river behind the Holiday Inn Riverfront.

That weekend will also feature the Jeeps and Jamz Expo at the Convention Center, with officials expecting the event to draw thousands of visitors throughout and along the riverfront.

“In a new, enhanced way, Visit Owensboro is collaborating with FA5 with our major groups in town,” said Mark Calitri, President/CEO of Visit Owensboro. “We wanted to create a visitor experience that’s entertaining and unique, that can be our differentiator from other communities.”

Other highlights throughout the season include the International GeoWoodstock geocaching event, Youth Sports night, RiverCity Bike Expo, and Motorsports week, along with other events.

Through a partnership with WBKR Friday Night Fights, FA5 will continue the “battle of the bands” competition where groups will vie for $1,000 and a chance to play a full set later in the season.

The First Fridays series also returns with concerts on the backyard stage at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum.

Friday After 5 promises the lineup of entertainment will have something for everyone with bands ranging from familiars such as Caribou and the Velvet Bombers to newer artists like Al Green & the Hard Times and Cam Thompson.

Glenn’s Gospel is also set to return with Hallelujah Fridays and music by Steve Bridgmon, Firm Foundation, the Childress Family and Fervent Heart.
