A drone light show is being put on tonight and Friday in downtown Owensboro. A total of 300 choreographed, LED-lit drones will fly over the Ohio River. The public is invited to attend the free show both nights.

The shows will be at 8:30 each evening and will last for approximately 15 minutes, with the drones making different shapes and formations for spectators to enjoy. A synced soundtrack will be played both nights to go along with the drone show.

“This will be unlike anything our community has ever seen before. Watching that many drones light up the night sky in formation will be mesmerizing,” said Dave Kirk, Visit Owensboro Destination Management.

Ryan Sigmon of Firefly Drone Shows said their team “couldn’t be more excited” to bring the drones to Owensboro and “have a great show planned.”

The Wednesday night show will coincide with the Kentucky Travel Industry Association’s spring conference, while the May 19 show coincides with opening night of Friday After 5.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to help bring such a one-of-a-kind show to the Owensboro riverfront,” said Tim Ross, City of Owensboro Public Events Director. “Being able to showcase it during Friday After 5’s City Night for the crowd downtown will be a tremendous crescendo to a special night.”

The performances are possible through a partnership between Visit Owensboro, the City of Owensboro, and German American Bank. The light show is put on by Firefly Drone Shows, the same group that puts on the shows at Holiday World.
