One of the largest catfish tournaments in the country is coming to Owensboro in May 2024. Alongside putting on their tournament, King Kat is hosting a Hunting and Fishing Expo at the Owensboro Convention Center.

Officials herald the tournament as having the largest payout with a low entry fee for all teams.

“We’re not going to announce just exactly what the payout is going to be, but I will tell you that King Kat has been working for 2 years to get low entry fees and big payouts. We believe that entry fees are going to be on $300 per team and the payout is going to be the biggest on that entry fee that’s ever been in the catfish world,” spokesman Bob Denen said.

Denen said they would cap entry at 100 teams with three members per team. There is an exception for each team allowing a fourth member if they are under 16 or over 65. Organizers expect to draw teams from across the country.

“If you’ve ever seen a big catfish, you’re gonna want to check this out because you’re gonna see some really big cats coming out of the Ohio,” Denen said.

All fishing during the two-day event will be along the Ohio River, with weigh-ins at the Convention Center.

The expo will be filled with vendors and other groups all focused on fishing and outdoor goods.

In addition to the tournament and expo, organizers are going to produce a TV show based off the event that will be aired on the King Kat Pursuit Channel — which currently sees 80,000-100,000 views.
