While the community is staying healthy at home, Owensboro Symphony has offered the opportunity to have an up-close and personal look at some of its talented musicians.

With the Meet the Musicians series, performers talk about their instruments and share their passion for music.

Ross Erickson
Erickson is the Principal Percussionist of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra and has been a member of the Orchestra since 2012.

He also performs as Principal Percussionist of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, a position held in tandem with the University of Evansville Department of Music as the Consortium Instructor of Percussion.

Erickson maintains a regular performance schedule as a member of the region’s orchestras and as an extra percussionist with the Louisville Orchestra and Orchestra Kentucky of Bowling Green.

In addition to his large-stage activities, Erickson enjoys performing regularly with fellow UE faculty members, joining the Shepard Brass Quintet and other faculty chamber ensembles for concerts throughout the year.

Erickson earned both Bachelor’s and Master of Music degrees in Performance from Indiana University. His principal teachers include John Tafoya, Dean Borghesani, Kevin Bobo, and Michael Spiro.

In his time at IU, Erickson participated in a diverse mix of ensembles, increasing his appreciation for the wide world of percussion as a member of the Afro-Cuban Folkloric Ensemble, Steel Pan Ensemble, and Brazilian Ensemble.
