Burns Middle School is hosting a “Concert on the Lawn” at 1 p.m. Saturday. The free, public performance will feature the BMS band, choir and orchestra and the Apollo High School orchestra.

The concert will be held in front of the school, located at 4610 Goetz Drive.

“We wanted to do this event for our students and students before them to come together as a whole and celebrate Burns Middle School,” said orchestra director Shelly Burgess.

The Apollo and Burns orchestras will perform Coldplay’s song “Viva la Vida.” The BMS band will perform “Furioso” by Robert W. Smith, while their choir will perform “Rise Up” by Andra Day.

At the end of the ensemble pieces, all performers will come together for a combined mash-up of “Found” from the Dear Evan Hansen musical and “Tonight” from the Hamilton musical.

“When you look at the lyrics of our group piece, ‘Found/Tonight’ it’s a song about reflection, gratitude, friendships and hope for the future,” said April Yonts, BMS band director. “It encapsulates everything we feel for our students and their future.”

The program will be about 45 minutes long. Guests are asked to park at Burns Elementary School and walk over to the lawn in front of Burns Middle. Attendees should bring a blanket or their own chairs.

“We wanted to celebrate the hard work and persistence our students and our community has endured for the past year with COVID-19, and the lasting legacy our Alumni have for BMS,” Yonts said.
