RPC Rock Camp

The RiverPark Center is accepting signups for their July Rock Camp to teach students ages 9-18 how to be a part of a band.

Executive Director Rich Jorn said that while some students know what it’s like to be a part of a marching band or an orchestra, this is a chance to give them a taste of what a rock band is like.

There will be some instructors teaching students how to play guitar, bass, drums and even some rock vocals.

“It’s an opportunity that a lot of kids don’t get until they’re older, or some kids not at all,” Jorn said.

This camp is a project Jorn wanted to host before arriving at the RiverPark Center and he saw the idea reflected in different ways, like School of Rock.

The camp only lasts a week and accepts students with no experience or who may already know how to play. When the camp is over, they will put on a live show to demonstrate what the students have learned.

“That’s the beautiful thing about anything within the arts. You may go on and make that your career, may be how you make your living, but it also could just be something that you do as a hobby, and you just love and that’s what makes you happy,” Jorn said.

Registration for the camp ends July 9, and it’s priced at $125. To sign up contact Grae Greer, Director of Marketing & Education, at [email protected] or call 270-687-2770.
