Fall semester of bluegrass music lessons to begin Oct. 16

The fall semester of music lessons at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum will offer two options — Bootcamp and Band Class (intermediate and advanced). Classes begin Oct. 16th and run every other Saturday through Dec. 11.

Students will receive music (chord sheets and tabs) digitally via email ahead of time. No hard copies will be given out at class. All classes are 45 minutes long.

Email Randy Lanham for questions about the classes [email protected]. Arrive at the Hall of Fame 15 minutes before class time. The cost is $55 for the entire fall semester.

Bootcamp
This class is designed for the beginner musician to have an introduction to each of the following instruments: fiddle, guitar, banjo, and mandolin. Instruments will be provide for use in class. No experience is needed. Bootcamp will be offered at 10 a.m. for students ages 8-12 and at 11 a.m. for students ages 13+.

The class schedule for Bootcamp is as follows:

  • Week 1 — Introduction to all bluegrass instruments and bluegrass history with live demonstration.
  • Week 2 — Guitar
  • Week 3 — Banjo
  • Week 4 — Fiddle
  • Week 5 — Manolin

Intermediate Band Class
Students must have basic knowledge of the instrument and know how to tune and read chord charts and tab. All music will be emailed ahead of time. Students will learn how to play in a band with other instruments and this class will move at a medium pace.

Advanced Band Class
This class is like the Intermediate Band Class, this class will move at a faster pace. Students will also study instrument technique, jamming, understanding keys, using capo, cord changes, etc.

Covid-19 considerations:

  • Masks and social distancing are required. Chairs will be set up 6 feet apart unless students are with family members that are taking the class together.
  • Only students will be allowed in the lesson room unless the student is a minor, then one parent or guardian may be present.
  • Temperature checks will occur upon entering the building. Anyone feeling sick or that has been around anyone that has, do not come to class.

The goal of the classes is to instill confidence to play with others while advancing the player’s skill level. 

The fee to register is $75 per person and covers the entire semester. Registration is available online at bluegrasshall.org or by calling 270-926-7891 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Class space is limited, and social distancing will be enforced. Masks will also be required.
