Owensboro Dance Theatre returns its annual Dance Battle Extravaganza this Saturday with over 140 community members prepared to support the art of dance.

The show is split into acts, with act one a performance by Giordano Dance Chicago and the second featuring community groups battling for the crown. The team with the most votes at the night’s end will walk away with $1,000 as the Grand Prize Winner.

The 6 groups consist of area non-profit organizations, schools, and local community businesses. With the assistance of ODT teaching artists, each community member, many with no previous dance experience, spends two months preparing a dance performance and presents the performance on stage during the second act of the event.

A team can win three prizes: The Grand Prize Winner, $1,000 for the team with the most night-of votes; the Community Favorite Winner, $500 for the team with the most votes ahead of the event; and the Battle Round Winner, $100 for winning the battle.

Only the audience member’s night of votes will count toward the Grand Prize Winner.

The teams are competing for a popular vote until Friday, February 16. Votes can be cast here between the following teams:

  • Team Strong, Smart, and Bold with Girls Inc. Owensboro
  • Owensboro High School Devils Dance Crew
  • Commonwealth Connections
  • Owensboro Middle School Dancing Devils
  • Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Kentucky
  • Daniel Pitino & St. Benedict’s Homeless Shelters

Voters can vote once a day or donate $1 for 2 votes toward their chosen team. All funds will go back toward ODT. The annual dance battle is a fundraiser for the organization to continue operations to the over 34,000 community members they serve throughout the year.

The event starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the RiverPark Center. Tickets can be purchased here and start at $16.
