Red Swing Coffee is set to open soon in downtown Owensboro. In addition to featuring gourmet coffee and specialty drinks the spot will also offer some innovative takes on breakfast, lunch, and desserts.

Red Swing Coffee will be located at 112 Allen St, across from the downtown parking garage and featuring a view of the blue bridge. The location was most recently home to a Ben’s Pretzels location, and prior to that housed a Cold Stone Creamery location.

The husband-and-wife duo of Brandon and Brittney Dukes plan to open the establishment in mid-May. The two concluded many of their early dates on a swing and thought the name was the perfect fit for the facility.

“We’ve never built anything from scratch, from the ground up,” Brandon Dukes said. “This journey has been exciting, completely ours, and close to our hearts. It speaks to what we believe in: serving others.”

Dukes said some of his fondest memories transpired on a swing, and it’s those vibes that he wishes to bring to Red Swing.

“We want to do something transcending that creates a positive memory for everyone that joins us,” he said. “I’ve never seen anyone upset while swinging — that’s what we’re trying to create here — an uplifting atmosphere with quality products.”

Dukes added that the coffee is roasted by a “single soul” roaster from here in the tristate. Drink items on the menu range from standard drip coffee to lattes, espressos, espresso drinks, frappucinos, and more.

“We’ve had several people come in and experiment with our coffees and drinks,” he said. “Our roaster has been on this journey with us, creating a remarkably flavored bean with solid flavors.”

Breakfast items will range from an assortment of waffle options such as bubble waffles and waffles on a stick to healthier options such as avocado toast. Lunch will feature a variety of wraps, soups, salads, and more.

The Dukes also own The Cupcakery, a local establishment recognized for its quality dessert options. Their passion for sweets and treats will extend to the Red Swing, offering them even more opportunities to explore their creativity by experimenting with some innovative menu items.

“Coffee and sweets go hand in hand,” Dukes said. “We will have cupcakes with our homemade buttercream icing, brownies, cake balls, cookies, and dessert loaves of bread.”

He recognized that Owensboro isn’t short on quality coffee shops and that their location offers the community another option.

“I love all the coffee shops in town; it’s fabulous for our community. Iron sharpens iron,” he said. “This location will be so much fun because you can sit inside and see the blue bridge or sit outside take in views of the river. We want people to come, grab a coffee, and enjoy downtown.”
