Fresh Start for Women is hosting a Freedom Event at 5:30 p.m. on its campus today. Independence Bank is sponsoring the event, which features concessions and apparel sales, live music, bouncy houses, and a free fireworks display.

The nonprofit exists to assist women who need a helping hand in overcoming obstacles such as domestic violence and addiction. The facility features a 12-unit apartment complex and three neighboring homes to aid its mission of providing low-cost housing and “community” support for women trying to find themselves in this world.

The freedom event is just one of the many fundraisers that keep the organization thriving. They also recently accepted a grant from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

Carol Adkins and board member Cindy Hudson made the trek to Madisonville to accept the grant, valued at $2,499. The group intends to use the funds to upgrade appliances for the families in the Fresh Start community.

“We could not provide this support to enhance the lives of Kentucky citizens without the generosity of the Kentucky Colonels,” Hudson said.

The organization also recently hired its first full-time executive director and has several projects in the works. Read more about that here.
