Heather Baldwin turned a vision for her own pet into a small business adventure about a year ago, and her homemade dog treats have been a hit ever since.
Luv My Pup Bakery started as a result of Baldwin’s own curiosity. She began questioning what she was really feeding her dog and started looking at the ingredients before she fed something to her pet.
“It’s important to me that I know what all goes into the treats I make,” Baldwin said. “They don’t have any preservatives or dyes, which is important for dogs, and they’re all fresh.”
Not only do customers marvel over how natural her products are, but Baldwin said customers often stop and look around because they are intrigued that these tasty looking treats are for canines.
“I just love looking at people’s faces when they realize they’re looking at a dog treat,” Baldwin said.
While Baldwin does value the perfection of her treats as a priority, she holds quality time with her family to an even greater level of importance. To give both of these passions equal attention, she works alongside her family to make her business successful.
“My husband and son help out, so we kind of do it as a family,” Baldwin said. “I don’t have to go away from home when I’m making the treats, I can still stay with my family and we can help each other.”
Baldwin not only appreciates the interaction her business gives her with her family, but with the market-goers of Owensboro as well.
“We love getting to interact with all the customers that come through this friendly and positive environment,” Baldwin said. “We like the feel of being a part of the family at the Farmers’ Market and want to continue that involvement.”
