Owensboro couple Misty and Mark Miller made an impromptu appearance on national TV Monday night, when they were interviewed by comedian and guest host Leslie Jones for a segment of The Daily Show on Comedy Central.

In the segment, Jones asks white people how they were celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. (The full segment can be seen here, with the Millers first appearing 28 seconds in). As expected for the show, Jones pokes fun at all of the interviewees.

Misty spoke about the experience Tuesday morning in an on-air interview with radio station WBKR. She said they were in New York City for the weekend to see the final performance of The Music Man starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster.

After they checked out of their hotel, the Millers decided to walk around Times Square.

“We looked over and Mark said, ‘you know, that looks kind of like that Leslie Jones lady from Saturday Night Live’ and I was like, ‘Mark, that is her.’ And we just kind of did the touristy thing where we just kept walking by and looking over at her,” Misty told WBKR.

Misty said a couple of producers came over and asked where the Millers were from. After hearing it was Kentucky, the producers said “Oh, you are the perfect people that we need to talk to you today.”

Miller said her mind was racing about what questions might be asked — it’s a show known for airing funny person-on-the-street interviews — but they decided to go for it.

“We went over and we spoke with (Jones) and she was very kind. Actually, we joked with her a lot, a lot more than was shown on the clip,” Miller said.

After a bit of back and forth, Jones asked how the Millers were celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

“Mark gave a really good answer about how we had watched some things on the news in the morning about Martin Luther King’s impact … well, of course, none that’s on the show,” Miller said with a laugh.

Mark then suggested he could do some pushups and the producers liked the idea, so Jones told him to get started.

“This ain’t reparations, but this is enough,” Jones jokingly yelled into Mark’s ear as he did them.

Misty said the couple didn’t tell too many people before the clip aired just in case they came across looking too silly, but the Millers were able to laugh about the experience and shared the clip Tuesday morning.
