Visit Owensboro is honoring the late Larry Maglinger by creating a community award that will bear his name. The Larry Maglinger Service Award — or “The Mag” Award — will be given to recipients for their contributions to tourism efforts, and nominations are now being accepted.
Maglinger, who served multiple terms as a City Commissioner and was the City’s liaison with Visit Owensboro, advocated for and supported tourism growth and development in Owensboro-Daviess County.
According to Visit Owensboro President/CEO Mark Calitri, The Mag Award will honor a recipient who showcases a significant contribution to the betterment, growth, and development of local tourism, who possesses characteristics that align with Maglinger’s values, and who demonstrates a history of outstanding achievement in delivering customer service excellence.
“This is our opportunity to help recognize the frontline people who work in the hospitality industry that help make our community shine,” Calitri said. “Customer service expectations are continuing to rise. At Visit Owensboro, we recognize the value and role that great customer service plays in achieving success.”
Tammy Maglinger said she was grateful for the award to be established to honor her late husband.
“Larry loved this community. He was always concerned about how to make a difference and worked towards that,” she said. “His success in business was because he always put his customers first and treated people with kindness. It didn’t matter if you were a CEO or you were a part-time worker.”
Nominations can be submitted to the Visit Owensboro staff at 215 East 2nd Street.
