The Imagination Library of Daviess County (ILDC) has released its 2023 pewter ornament, which depicts Rolling Pin Pastry Shop.
Ornaments cost $18 each and can be purchased at Crazy Me Gifts, Willow Tree, Danhauer Drugs, Simply Chic, and Western Kentucky Botanical Garden’s gift shop. To have an ornament shipped out of town, contact ILDC through their Facebook Page.
The Rolling Pin ornament is the 20th to be released by ILDC. Bowers said their biggest seller so far has been Big Dipper (released in 2021), followed closely by Gabe’s Tower (2020). The organization has also created ornaments highlighting several local and historic churches, the famous Sassafras tree, Union Station, and other well-known and longstanding buildings across town.
Bowers said they expect Rolling Pin to be the new bestseller.
“The Rolling Pin has long been a customer favorite here in Owensboro, being chosen as Owensboro’s favorite bakery in 2015’s Best of Owensboro Living Contest,” said Diane Bowers, chair of the ILDC’s board. “This year’s ornament is sure to be a hit!”
The Imagination Library is a program sponsored by Dolly Parton that provides one book per month via mail to every child registered from birth to five years old. While the Dollywood Foundation selects the books and does the purchasing and mailing, the local organization pays for the books.
ILDC is currently providing books for nearly 3,500 children in Daviess County.
“Sales of the ornaments help us raise funds to purchase the books that are mailed to children here in Daviess County,” Bowers said. “The most common misconception about the Imagination Library program is that Dolly Parton pays for the books, which is not true. The Dollywood Foundation manages the selection of the books, as well as the mailing, but it’s up to our local organization to pay for the books.”
While the ornament project is one of their more well-known efforts, Bowers said their biggest fundraiser of the year is the annual trivia night. Every dollar raised goes toward the purchase of books.
This year’s event will be at 6:30 p.m. on September 23 at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Teams can consist of up to 8 people, at a cost of $25 per person. To register, email [email protected], send us a message through Facebook, or call 270-316-3612.
