The Owensboro Duplicate Bridge Club (ODBC) is looking for a new place to play cards after it was announced Towne Square Mall will be closing. While the club is adamant about continuing to play bridge, they must leave the mall by September 5.
The club formed a committee to explore new options. In the short term, they will likely move to the Odd Fellows Building (located on the corner of 3rd and St. Ann streets) until they find a permanent solution. The group has planned a special board meeting to address the issue and promises to have an answer to members as soon as possible.
The group currently hosts games on Mondays at 6 p.m. as well as Wednesdays and Fridays at 1 p.m. Some members of the club travel from as far away as Madisonville and Bowling Green.
Bridge is a trick-taking card game using a standard 52-card deck, played by four players in two competing partnerships. The mental challenge of the game, with each game offering a unique combination of problems and solutions, attracts millions of players to it worldwide.
ODBC is an American Contract Bridge League (ACBL)-certified club, meeting three times weekly for Bridge games. The group initially hosted its games inside the Senior Community Center of Owensboro-Daviess County before securing their location inside Towne Square Mall.
Aside from playing bridge, the group also regularly hosts fundraisers to support shelters and other nonprofits in the community.
