While Towne Square Mall doesn’t officially close for one more week, most of the remaining tenants have already begun packing up and moving out. Some stores already have plans for new locations, while a couple are still deciding what to do.
Bath & Body Works is already closed for business. OT was the first to report the store’s soon-to-be new location in Gateway Commons last month with an open date of late September or early October of this year.
Sports Country has closed in the mall and has already opened its new location at 317 Park Plaza Drive (in the former Lodan Jewelry building).
Gadsook Custom Printing said they are finding a new home at 503 East 18th Street in the Mid City Plaza. They plan to open on September 5.
Maurice’s is already closed. Officials say there are no current plans to reopen the store, but they will let the public know when a final decision is made.
Spencer’s is closing its Owensboro store and moving to Evansville’s Eastland Mall, according to team members working there Monday.
Hi Tech Cell Phone Accessories announced on Facebook that they are relocating but do not have a final location determined.
Halloween Havoc remains open because it has a direct entrance/exit to the parking lot. Planet Fitness is still moving forward with its new location in the space formerly home to Burkes Outlet, which spans just under 23,000 square feet. It also has a direct entrance/exit to the parking lot.
Towne Square Mall opened for business on March 1, 1978, as a retail hub with 61 businesses throughout the building. Many of the original tenants are still around today but in their own locations, including businesses such as Greenwell Chisolm Printing, Carpets Unlimited, Lark Electric Co., Welborn Floral Co., and several others.
The mall is currently owned by TSM Holdings and managed by Gulfstream Commercial Services LLC. The announcement was made earlier this month that the mall would close on September 5.
Ed Ray, Chief Operating Officer at Gulfstream Enterprises, said exterior Frederica Street frontage development would ensue with plans to reopen the mall. The new vision features a combination of retail, warehouse, restaurant, and office space, assuming the name of Towne Square Center.
