The Owensboro Family YMCA Young Leaders Luncheon returns on August 11. The annual event recognizes high school seniors who “possess outstanding integrity, excellence, and passion to make a difference,” with the students being awarded scholarships for their next move.
“It’s going to be an amazing event. Our applicants are top-notch, and this year we will have live testimonials from our YMCA members who have been impacted by our mission … There are so many great stories to hear,” said YMCA CEO John Alexander.
For those interested in attending the luncheon, Alexander said purchasing a table of six costs $1,500 — with the money supporting the scholarship fund.
Director of Operations Kristi Harrison said the total scholarship amount and the recipients have yet to be decided, as the available funds will depend on how many tables are sold.
“We have eight applicants but will announce winners at the event for the first time. Last year we were set to give out two scholarships but an anonymous donor in the crowd was so impressed with the applicants he gave a donation so that they all received a minimum of $1,000,” she said.
Tables and seats are still available. To reserve a seat, contact Harrison at 270-663-8203 or [email protected].
