Five local students have been named semifinalists in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program, an annual competition recognizing intellectual accomplishments.
Semifinalists include:
- David Daniel, Owensboro High School
- Jacob Ladwig, Gatton Academy (Owensboro High School)
- Isaac Hay, Apollo High School
- Carson Decker, Daviess County High School
- Jackson Wedding, Owensboro Catholic High School
They are among more than 16,000 semifinalists, which represent students who earned the highest scores in each state on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. More than 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship.
National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million will be awarded this spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition.
