Habitat for Humanity Owensboro-Daviess County held groundbreaking ceremonies Thursday for their next four home builds. The local Habitat chapter expects to complete 9-10 houses in 2023.

“This has been, and will continue to be, a record year for our organization,” said Jeremy Stephens, Habitat Executive Director. “These ceremonies are so special. We gather as an organization with board members, volunteers, Habitat applicants, and future homeowners and their families to celebrate the first step in building their houses. We then pray together in hopes everyone will stay safe in the process it takes to turn an empty lot, into a house, and then finally into a home.”

The next four Habitat homes include one home on Walnut Street, two on Cravens Avenue, and one on Western Court.

“As Habitat Owensboro-Daviess County continues to provide affordable housing in our region, we are so excited to announce four new home groundbreaking ceremonies for well-deserving families,” said Dr. David Danhauer, Habitat Board President. “These families have/will be putting in hours of sweat equity for home ownership. It is only through the continued generosity of our community that these homes are possible. On behalf of the board and the entire Habitat community, we say thank you for your continued support.”

Habitat also plans to break ground soon on a first-time homeowner training facility. Stephens said it will be the first of its kind in the United States and will be named Ms. Virginia’s Education and Training Center in honor of Habitat’s former Executive Director Virginia Braswell.
