Three local garden clubs are hosting James Farmer — a Southern author, interior designer, and speaker — for a lecture, floral demonstration, and book signing on October 24.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum. Limited tickets remain and cost $50 per person. To reserve a ticket, text or call Katie Drab at 270-348-1069.

The Fleur De Lis, Home & Garden, and Potpourri Garden Clubs are collectively hosting the event, which is sponsored by Welborn Florist and David P. Taylor Antiques.

Drab, a member of the Fleur De Lis Garden Club, is helping spearhead the event. Drab and her sister previously attended one of Farmer’s speaking engagements at his home — referred to as “Farmdale” — in Perry, Georgia. They got to tour his home and gardens and received a signed copy of his then-latest book release, Arriving Home

“James radiates Southern grace and charm, and has an innate ability to capture the hearts and attention of an audience with his warm personality,” Drab said. “Upon leaving the event, we knew we had to get James to Kentucky. Fast forward a few years, and I joined the Fleur De Lis Garden Club. I presented the idea of hosting James in Owensboro to our Garden Club and everyone jumped at the opportunity right away.”

The Owensboro event will celebrate the launch of Farmer’s ninth and newest book, Celebrating Home, A Time for Every Season. The book features design projects from the farmlands of Georgia to the rolling countryside of Connecticut.

Celebrating Home is an entertaining-focused book that celebrates just what makes celebrations special,” the book description reads. “Plates and patterns, flowers and food, stemware and silver…and, most importantly, the blessings of each passing season and the observances of the graceful small joys that truly make our lives big. Each season is a salute to nature’s bounty, a family’s heritage, and the undercurrent of love we share. Commemorating each milestone or minute with that love is a true delight.”

Farmer also has six books on the Wall Street Journal best-seller list and has been published in various magazines including Southern Living, House Beautiful, Traditional Home, Southern Home, FLOWER, and more.

His company James Farmer Designs offers full-service interior design for both large- and small-scale projects. According to their website, their interiors “combine the rich traditions of the past with the sensibilities of contemporary life. Effortless elegance, comfort, and harmony are the hallmarks of James Farmer Designs.”
