The Opportunity Center of Owensboro – a local nonprofit assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to develop independence in the community – will host its first annual Boo Bash fundraiser this fall. Slated for October 27, the adult-only event features a live band, food, a cash bar, and more.

The bash will run from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Opportunity Center, 3650 New Hartford Road. Previously, the group relied heavily on its bingo license to raise funds, and they’re hopeful this will replace that as its key fundraiser.

“We didn’t renew our bingo license this year, which has been our annual fundraiser for a long time,” communications manager Chelsey Robison said. “We were looking for a signature event to raise awareness and funds simultaneously.”

Striving to refrain from interfering with other local fundraising events and in search of something creative, the group decided Halloween was the perfect timeframe.

“We didn’t want to pull from others, and we wanted to offer a good time with a fun theme,” she said. “This is a good opportunity for the community because there aren’t really any big Halloween party fundraisers at this time.”

Organizers and Opportunity Center clients are decorating the facility like Disney’s Haunted Mansion to make the event even more unique.

They’re also hosting an art show where attendees can purchase original artwork from the individuals the Opportunity Center serves.

Locally-renowned emcee Kirk Kirkpatrick will serve as the inaugural master of ceremonies, while Nona’s Market will serve up delicious food offerings.
Jagoe Homes is this year’s presenting sponsor. Tickets are available for $50 each here.
