Businesses in Owensboro’s “grain district” are collaborating to host a free, family-friendly Halloween Block Party this Saturday. Several events are planned throughout the evening, beginning at noon and lasting until 2 a.m.
Spanning from 900 to 1012 East 4th Street, participating business include The Dispo, Lure Smoke Shack, The Lot, The Oven, Welborn’s Floral Company, and Nine Circles Tattoo .
The party features a trick-or-treat zone, face painting, a craft zone, art vendors, and college football across several big screens. There will also be an outdoor theatre, costume contests, outdoor games, and multiple food trucks with various options.
“We’re kind of tucked away, and not many people come down here, or if they do they’re just passing through,” said Shelly Marshall with The Oven. “This is a great opportunity to get families and kids down here to show what we have to offer. We really want to attract families to this area.”
There will also be a double-feature movie showing, with “The Nightmare Before Christmas” at 4 p.m. followed by “Hocus Pocus” at 5:30 p.m. Hotdogs and popcorn are available during the films for $1.
As the night sets in, attendees can enjoy live music by Nick Cheeck and the Golden Hour along with Year of October from 7-10 p.m. There will be an after-party at Ten.0.Six from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. featuring an adult costume contest, drink specials, and a live DJ.
“We’re excited to host an event in the grain district and at The Lot for the entire family,” said Ben Skiadis, who arrived at the idea for a food truck park roughly 1 year ago before partnering with Welborn’s Floral Company and their Market 03 venue to bring the concept to life. “We have several fun activities planned, so be sure to come check it out. These local businesses have put a lot of work into it.”
