The Daviess County Lions Club is gearing up to host their inaugural Harvest Festival on October 21-22. The event replaces the annual Apple Festival hosted by Reid’s Orchard after the Reid family decided to give up the reins last year. The event will feature carnival rides, a cornhole tournament, a petting zoo, and live music on the gazebo.

The Harvest Festival will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. that Saturday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Daviess County Lions Fairgrounds, located at 6191 KY 54 in Philpot.

Dyanne Baker is one of the organizers and expects a big crowd at the event. She said they have 20 food booths and 43 craft vendors registered to be at the event.

“We are preparing for the big weekend and hope you are, too,” Baker said. “We had the opportunity to take over the festival, so we took advantage of it. We have a lot of space at the fairgrounds, and we’re always looking to be a venue for activities. This is a really exciting time for the Lions Club. There isn’t much to do on this side of town, and we think the fairgrounds is an awesome venue.”

The cost to park is $5, with the money benefitting local nonprofits. Sponsors of the event include Hayden Electric, Hayden Construction, Gordon’s True Value, and Don Moore Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC.

“We’re so grateful to those four businesses for reaching out to sponsor us,” Baker said. “We’re also very appreciative of the supportive community. We’re excited to have the festival and hope it’s something everyone can enjoy and will prosper for years to come.’
