This 2023 City of Owensboro Christmas Card, titled “2nd sTREEt” and designed by artist Aaron Kizer, was unveiled Tuesday evening. It will be available for purchase starting Wednesday.
Kizer said he didn’t want to make the card overly “Christmasy” but still wanted to convey the spirit of the holiday.
“I tried to represent that the Christmas spirit can be found anywhere, you don’t have to have all the fancy stuff,” Kizer said.
The card depicts plenty of snow covering the sidewalks of 2nd Street — and if you look closely the street is shaped like a Christmas tree with the stop light serving as the star on top.
Those interested can purchase the cards for $2 each starting Wednesday at Owensboro City Hall (101 East 4th Street). A limited number of cards are available. City Hall is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except on observed holidays.
This marks the 35th annual Christmas card for the City. Kizer designed the City’s card for the first time in 2018, taking over a years-long slot that had previously been filled by artist Rex Robinson. Kizer’s 2019 card featured the “Owensbear” in front of the downtown bridge and surrounded by snow. The 2020 card “Little Full, Lotta Sap” featured a large Christmas tree atop one of the City’s downtown trolleys. The 2021 card “A Classic Christmas” payed homage to the Coca-Cola Christmas. The 2022 card “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” depicted Santa with a version of the Owensboro bridge.
