The Owensboro Symphony Youth and String Orchestras will perform their annual fall concert on Monday.
The concert will be held at First Christian Church (700 JR Miller Boulevard). Doors will open to patrons 30 minutes prior to the 7 p.m. performance. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased in advance at OwensboroSymphony.org.
In August, the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra appointed new leadership. The Youth Orchestra is under the direction of Mark Hatlestad, Principal Viola in the Owensboro Symphony and Evansville Philharmonic. The String Orchestra is led by Adrienne Vallandingham, who has been teaching her studio of violin students at the Owensboro Symphony Academy for 8 years and serves as education coordinator and librarian for the Owensboro Symphony.
The Owensboro Symphony, through its sponsorship of the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra program, provides specialized training to more than 100 young musicians each year. The Youth Orchestra program dedicates itself to building on the success of school programs by offering students music that continues to challenge them in their growth.
Many students exiting the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra have been offered college music scholarships and continue performing beyond high school graduation.
The program consists of two performing ensembles: the Youth Orchestra, a full orchestra experience, and a String Orchestra. Participants represent every local and many regional high school and middle school bands and orchestras. The Youth Orchestra welcomes college students who wish to continue their careers as instrumentalists at a high level.
Youth Orchestra auditions for the spring semester will be from 12-4 p.m. on December 10 and from 5:45-8 p.m. on December 11.
