Jenny Vanmeter, who has been a server at Colby’s Fine Food and Spirits for 15 years, was awarded the second “Mag Award” by the Daviess County Convention and Visitors Bureau on Tuesday for her commitment to customer service.
The award was created to continue the legacy of the late City Commissioner and long-time CVB board member Larry Maglinger, and it is designed to honor residents who are ambassadors of local tourism efforts while demonstrating outstanding customer and guest service.
Vanmeter said that what keeps her going and enjoying Colby’s is always wanting to be the best.
“I always just want to do better every day and beat the previous one,” Vanmeter said.
Vanmeter met Maglinger when he was a customer and was starstruck, as she had wanted to see him after watching his shows back in the 1990s. Vanmeter continued to serve Larry and his wife Tammy during their time as regulars at Colby’s.
Restaurant owners Carole and Colby MacQuarrie witnessed Vanmeter serve numerous customers over the years and establish far too many repeat customers to count – including visitors to Owensboro.
“She has been and will always be a shining star in our business and the community. We are extremely grateful for her solid dedication and to all she puts in her hands,” the MacQuarries said.
Vanmeter was grateful for the award, especially with her tie to Maglinger.
“It’s the most humbling thing I’ve ever done, and never in a million years would I have come up with being honored in his name,” she said. “It’s amazing to me.”
