The Holiday Stroll returns to downtown Owensboro for a 16th year this Saturday. The event runs from 10 a.m. to midnight and features several events for the entire family.
The primary event is a gnome hunt, where participants donate hygiene, pantry items, or $5 to the Daniel Pitino Shelter or St. Benedict to enter the contest. After accessing clues online or on a map that can be picked up at Simply Chic, Willow & Pine, Byron & Barclay, or Lure Seafood and Grille, contestants will search for gnomes throughout downtown.
After capturing a picture with each gnome, hunters will qualify for the grand prize: 2 tickets to see Lainey Wilson in Evansville. There’s also a kid’s competition. To learn more about the gnome hunt and other events, click here.
The Holiday Stroll also features a coffee crawl from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where participants can visit at least 4 businesses for a chance to win a prize. There’s also a pub crawl from 5 p.m. to midnight for those eager to stay out late.
One of the organizers, Ben Skiadas, said every downtown business participates.
“Every single merchant wanted to be a part of this in one way or another,” Skiadas said. “This event tells the tale of small businesses working with large businesses and the City. It’s a complete community collaboration.”
Each business is offering various sales, deals, and specials, with many extending their hours. The “green cup rule” is in effect, so shoppers can enjoy refreshments — including adult beverages — while they peruse the many offerings.
Adding to the excitement, local and well-known artist Aaron Kizer is partnering with his daughter Airen to paint every store window for the festivities. While the two are donating their time, Kizer Construction helped fund the supplies.
Skiadas said attendees could also visit several fun “pop-up” shops and performances. Owensboro’s String Quartet will play at the Hampton Inn from 2-3:30 p.m., while the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum will feature several live performances throughout the day. Each location will also have merchandise for sale.
The City of Owensboro is partnering with Wonderboy Media for free family photos at McConnell Plaza’s Green River Bourbon Barrell Christmas Tree.
Energy on Ice will also launch during the event. Read more about that event here. There are also live reindeer, interactive children’s events, and photo opportunities at the Owensboro Museum of Science and History. Read more about that here.
