Owensboro Memorial Gardens will be aglow with the warmth of remembrance as community members gather for the annual Angel of Hope Candlelight Ceremony at 6 p.m. tonight. The Angel of Hope statue, located in the Garden of Faith at Owensboro Memorial Gardens, stands as a beacon of support for those who have experienced the loss of a child.

This event is free and open to the public.

The Angel Statue was installed in December 2018 after a yearslong personal passion project spearheaded by Leslye Scott.

The Christmas Box Angel Statue idea originates from the book and movie “The Christmas Box” by Richard Paul Evans. Though the story is mostly fiction, in the book, a woman mourns the loss of her child at the base of an angel monument. There are more than 200 statues nationwide.

Owensboro’s statue is maintained by Glenn Funeral Home and is available to visit for anyone in the community who has lost a child.

For more information on the candlelight ceremony, visit the Owensboro Memorial Gardens Facebook page.
