Virginia Corley formed Right to Life Owensboro in 1973 to educate the community about the sanctity of life from the moment of conception until natural death. Executive director Stacey Davis said the mission remains unchanged despite the evolving social landscape.

In 2023, the nonprofit’s board of directors adjusted the mission statement to read, “Empowering women by giving them the resources they need to make abortion not just illegal, but unthinkable.”

The organization recently installed a Safe Haven Baby Box at Fire Station One, allowing mothers in crisis to surrender their babies legally.

“We plan to continue to fight to keep abortion illegal because we know it causes more detrimental effects to a woman who is already suffering,” Davis said. “We want to help women and alleviate burdens from their life. A baby is not a burden; it is a blessing.”

Davis said they’re also installing nursing stations and continuing to provide layettes and diapers to women in need.

Their next event is their annual chili supper, set for February 24 at 5 p.m. at Blessed Mother Catholic Church.

“It’s a fun family event with a huge silent auction,” she said. “We will be selling chili and vegetable soup. There is also a drive-through option to buy gallons and half gallons.”

Davis added that they’re always searching for volunteers and promoting community involvement. To learn more about Right to Life Owensboro, call 270-685-4922.
