Have you ever wanted to help spot and report weather phenomena? Now’s your chance, with a Basic Weather Spotter course being offered in Owensboro this March.

A weather spotter is a trained volunteer who observes and reports weather conditions to the National Weather Service and local Emergency Management office. The National Weather Service relies on the volunteers to supplement Doppler radar information to issue warnings of tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and flash floods.

“These dedicated individuals volunteer many hours of their time to learn about and detect severe weather. Their valuable cooperation is important in the warning process,” according to the NWS.

Registration is required for the course, which will take place at 6 p.m. on March 5 at Legacy Owensboro Church (5333 Frederica Street). The class is free of charge and all course material is provided.
