The iconic Owensboro food truck, J’s Good Grub, recently announced the launch of a carry-out brick-and-mortar location. Paired with the Where’s the Foodtruck (WTF) app, Johnson envisions the establishment offering a seamless carry-out experience.
Located at 224C Carlton Drive, he hopes to open the location to enhance the entire food truck experience. He and his team will continue to prepare and cook all the food in the food trucks, using the new location to host events and improve efficiency.
Patrons can place orders through the WTF app and park in a numbered spot at the new location. From there, a member of Johnson’s team will bring the order directly to their car.
“We’re changing the culture of food trucking,” he said. “We plan to keep our food trucks rolling but bring that same culture to the brick-and-mortar location.”
He expects to open the location in a month. For updated hours of operation, follow the food truck on Facebook, Instagram, and the WTF app.
Johnson said they plan to host several family-friendly events at the new spot with DJs and activities for teens and kids.
He’s also building a second food truck, hoping to open soon. He said there have been minor delays during the process, but they’re nearing completion of the kitchen.
“We’re coming from all kinds of different angles,” he said. “We’ve had some minor setbacks, but anyone who knows me knows that setbacks always create major comebacks. I’ve been counted out several times, but with God’s grace, I’m still here, still moving forward, and won’t let anything stop me.”
J’s Good Grub will open tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. or later at Jumping Jacks on the corner of Walnut and Parrish. Johnson said the plans to go live on Facebook here, updating the community on progress at the new location.
For the month of February, the food truck is also offering double points as part of its reward program on its point of sale system. Johnson said that could equate to free burgers during burger week.
With the influx of carry-out orders, especially wings, the J’s Good Grub team is also preparing for a busy Super Bowl Sunday.
With a growing team, he’s also added a delivery option.
Johnson opened the food truck in 2018, consistently expanding his following by offering fresh, flavor-packed soul food.
