After announcing Sunday they were closing at 217 Williamsburg Square, The Spot Coffee and Finery has secured a new location. Proprietor Jacob Pendley said they’re relocating just down the road to 2815 Veach Road, with plans to open on March 1.
With Mentor Kids moving into the space next door at the corner of Veach and Lincoln Mall Drive, their location became available. Libertaila owner Chris Hamilton brought the potential location to Pendley’s attention, and for that, he’s grateful.
“It’s unbelievable how much support we’ve received from the community, others in the industry, and local property owners,” Pendley said. “We’re moving really fast – it’s insane. We’re just putting our touch on it and transforming it into what makes the Spot the Spot.”
Pendley said he intends to add a drive-through and outdoor seating to the new location.
The Spot’s last day at Williamsburg Square was on January 27. On the 21st, they announced they would continue their services from The Spot Coffee Bus until they secured a new location.
He said this past weekend was the busiest they’ve ever been, running out of inventory early Sunday afternoon. The Owensboro Times covered the closing here.
Overwhelmed with support from the community, including other local coffee shops, Pendley decided it was best to look towards the future; he didn’t expect to find a new location so quickly.
“We’re grateful for the support shown,” Pendley said when they closed. “It broke my heart to see the customers with teary eyes, baffled at how a successful coffee shop could be forced out. We’re all moving past that, though. I’ve put enough of my mental energy into that and want to be happy about the future.”
The Spot offered over 72 local vendors a place to showcase and sell their products for the past 7 years, something they intend to continue at the new location. It has also served as a gathering spot for folks from all walks of life. Their mantra has always been “Weirdos welcome.”
“We have something for everyone and a place where young people can hang out and spend time with friends,” he said.
