This month’s leap day will bring the opening of Toad Hop Creamery off KY 54. Owners Reghan and Joshua Easterly said the brand is a modern ode to a traditional ice cream store, serving premium ice cream in a fun and inviting atmosphere.
“We are a locally and family-owned business,” Reghan said. “We make all our ice cream in-store daily with high-quality ingredients, creating a new flavor every week. We will consistently have vegan and dairy-free flavors available.”
The ice cream shop is located at 3500 Villa Point Drive Suite 102 in the former Wheatgrass Juice Bar, next to Salsarita’s in the shopping strip near Kohl’s.
The store will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily and will feature buttery waffle cones, bowls, and a variety of sundae toppings.
“We chose to open our doors in Owensboro because of the growing and welcoming community, as well as the exciting culture around supporting small businesses and shopping locally,” Reghan said. “We cannot wait to serve up some delicious joy to this community.”
Reghan managed an ice cream store in college and quickly developed a passion for it. She said she and Joshua always joke about opening their own ice cream brand.
The name stems from a small area in west Terre Haute, Indiana, referred to as “Toad Hop” by the locals. Reghan’s family has called Terre Haute home for over 6 generations and said the name lends itself perfectly to their unique and playful brand.
“After we had our second daughter, we started thinking more seriously about building a business and working for ourselves,” she said. “For me, ‘Toad Hop’ evokes feelings of joy from visiting my grandparents there as a child.”
It’s those playful feelings Reghan hopes Toad Hop will invoke for its customers.
