The community is invited to participate in another Big O Bluegrass Band Jam on Saturday. The community band is open to anyone who wants to play, sing, and share music with others. It was created after more than 500 people helped set the world record for the largest bluegrass band in October 2023.

The Jam session will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday on the 3rd floor of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum. It’s one of the several events making up the Great American Bluegrass Jam this weekend.

“You don’t have to be a great musician or singer to join us, just come to have fun and be a part of something special with others who love bluegrass, folk, and Gospel music. Feel free to bring music and charts to read and play along with the lead band,” said Randy Lanham, who leads the band and is the education director at the Hall of Fame.

The jam session will include an 8-song set. Email Lanham at [email protected] for the chord charts and tab. Thos interested can also choose to subscribe to the Bluegrass Music Academy online lessons to learn all of these songs taught by Lanham, who breaks down each line and part. The 8 songs being played include:

  1. Will The Circle Be Unbroken D
  2. Crawdad Hole D
  3. Amazing Grace D
  4. My Old KY Home D
  5. You Are My Sunshine D
  6. God Bless America D
  7. How Great Thou Art G
  8. Blue Moon of KY D

The world record for the largest bluegrass band was set at Jim Lambert Pioneer Village in Yellow Creek Park on October 28, 2023, as part of John Lanham Jam Day, an event organized by brothers Randy and Barry Lanham. They asked people to show up with their guitars, banjos, fiddles, and voices to play and sing “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” together in the key of G.

Lanham said the world record effort opened his eyes to how many people in the community and beyond are aching to play with others and be a part of something special. That prompted him and countless other volunteers to form the Big O Bluegrass Band.
