The Owensboro’s Men’s Mass Community Choir has announced two performances for this spring. The group will perform at Zion Baptist Church on March 24, followed by an encore concert on April 14 at First Christian Church.

Both performances will be at 3 p.m.

Minister Tracy McGee directs the choir, which traces its beginnings back to 2005. This year’s choir includes men from 16 area churches of various denominations.

Choir president Larry “Chick” Owen said the group is approaching its 20th anniversary of “gathering a diverse group of men for fellowship and singing.

“Our organization’s motto is ‘Men praising God,’ and we try to be models for our community’s youth,” Owen said. “We are excited about this year’s concerts. The men have been gathering for practice every Saturday this year, and they are sounding really good. I think the public will really enjoy and appreciate this year’s concerts.”

The first concert benefits the H.L. Neblett Community Center. At the event, the choir will honor the 2024 recipient of the Reverend George E. Riley On-The-Battlefield Award, which recognizes individuals for their service to God and their fellow man.

“The music we are singing is very refining yet empowering,” McGee said. You’ll hear some soulful quartet music along with some old-school ’90s gospel bands like Commissioned and some favorite hymns. We can’t wait to show off our soloists, too.”

McGee recently completed his coursework in Vocal Music Performance and Christian Ministries at Kentucky Wesleyan College, where he founded and directed the college’s gospel choir. He also graduated from the Las Vegas School of Performing Arts.

The choir features men of all ages and professional backgrounds, many of whom are recognized community leaders. Ke’Shawn Flowers will accompany the group on organ, with Alison McFarland on the keyboard, Art Ealum on the bass, and Jehvion Thames on drums.

This year’s featured singers include The Rev. Larry Lewis, Evangelist Michael Johnson, Sammy James, and Charles Michael Hatchett.
