The Green River Building Industry Association, formerly called Home Builders Association of Owensboro, will host its annual Home Expo this weekend.

Formerly known as the Home and Garden Show, the event will run from March 8-9 and features exhibitors from across the industry. Admission to the show is free for the first time in 25 years. People’s Bank is this year’s presenting sponsor, while Lee Building Products is the admission sponsor.

The show allows homeowners, builders, and others in the field to stay current with the latest home trends. It will run from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

“We focus on way more than just homes — it’s outdoor living as a whole,” said executive officer Richard Stallings. “People are always looking to improve their homes and have plans for improving their living spaces. Maybe it’s new furnishings or just creating a unique style, or they’ve bought a house and want to put their stamp on it.”

The show has been a staple in Owensboro for 32 years, growing and evolving drastically during that time. Stallings said establishing the Owensboro Convention Center as its permanent location has also paid dividends.

Several will flock to Owensboro and downtown from the surrounding area to visit the more than 65 vendors exhibiting. But Stallings said the show’s most significant impact is the opportunities it generates for local businesses.

“The real impact is that most of what you see is from local vendors,” he said. We have members from several industries, including commercial building, suppliers, real estate, etc., and they will establish new business from this show.”

Stallings said the event also features the latest in outdoor living with several landscape exhibitors, as well as a boating section to cater to those with primary residences or vacation homes on the water.

“There is always new construction and remodeling going on,” Stallings said. “Family sizes are changing and people are upsizing or downsizing, and a home requires constant maintenance. This show is a great opportunity to see the latest trends and speak with local experts in the industry.”
