Daviess County High School graduate Houston Hogg helped desegregate football in the Southeastern Conference in the 1960s. He was honored locally Friday evening for his legacy in the sport.

The H.L. Neblett Community Center hosted “Black in Blue” at the RiverPark Center, complete with a reception and screening of the documentary of the same title. The event also had Owensboro resident Paul Martin speaking about Hogg’s legacy.

Hogg played football for the University of Kentucky in 1967, making him one of the first Black athletes to play in the SEC for the Wildcats. He lettered for the team in 1969 and 1970. Playing running back and defensive back, he completed his college career with 245 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.

H.L. Neblett Community Center Director Martiza Meeks and April Brown, Hogg’s daughter, speak at Black and Blue Friday evening.
