Interior design business Kate & Waverly is partnering with local florist Meadow House to provide a one-stop shop for all interior decorating needs. The two businesses will celebrate the grand opening of their joint storefront on August 3.

Kate Mazariegos, owner of Kate & Waverly, and Meagan Cooley, owner of Meadow House, were introduced when Cooley opened her storefront and needed an interior designer to help make the space her own. When Cooley asked, it was an instant yes.

“You ask me to design a flower shop, it’s like ‘Yes, of course.’ I’ve loved flowers; they’ve always been a side thing of mine, so I had to say yes,” Mazariegos said.

Since becoming colleagues 2 years ago, they have continued collaborating and developed working relationships as business owners, often sharing clientele for different projects.

“We can realize people like both of these things. What I’m putting out with Meadow House and with Kate & Waverly Home, they attract the same kind of people, and so that would be really cool to have one space where people could go and shop for everything,” Cooley said.

The two will remain separate businesses, but both will operate under the same roof at 318 St. Elizabeth Street. Kate & Waverly will sell vintage pieces and decorations to fill the house with, while Meadow House builds both custom and premade floral arrangements.

Mazariegos said her personal style of design involves mixing and matching different textures and patterns and decorating with ages.

“I just really want my clients to love the space they’re in and not just be decorating,” she said.

As for Cooley, she said people buy her bouquets on their best and worst days, so she works to find the heart in a gift for not only the occasion but the family receiving it. Over time, she said, she’s learned more about her customers beyond the one-bouquet occasion.

“I could have a customer who’s buying for their mom’s funeral or for their grandbaby’s birth. It’s the whole spectrum of emotions, and I feel honored to be a part of that. I try to keep the heart of it at the forefront and really care about my customers. It’s not just about putting some flowers together,” Cooley said.

The two agree the businesses blend well because of their natural ability to shape a space.

“Flowers make spaces beautiful, and vintage antiques make spaces beautiful, so in my mind, they just go together. I think it’s so convenient to have it in one location,” Mazariegos said.

The two have been building the storefront to adequately showcase both businesses. To create a good customer experience, they plan to have new vintage pieces, a photo station, cookies and more.

The store will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. While closed on Sunday and Monday, both have websites that people can visit and place orders for pickup and delivery.
