The faith-based nonprofit 10,000 Reasons gave away their third donation of the year on Tuesday, presenting an $8,818 check to MentorKids KY.

10K Reasons launched earlier this year, and the group aims to have at least 100 men donate at least $100 quarterly. The group then collectively votes on which nonprofit to donate the money to. The organization meets quarterly to hear three nonprofits present their donation needs.

This quarter’s finalists included MentorKids KY, the Daniel Pitino Shelter, and Dream Riders of Kentucky.

MentorKids KY Executive Director Berly Tillman Sullivan said the donation will help complete the renovations at their new location. She said they still have to complete the flooring for the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry area as well as install carpet flooring throughout the remainder of the space.

The organization also wants to complete its kitchen to provide cooking lessons for its mentees, teaching them how to prepare food often found in food pantries.

“I’m just honored that the men who chose us to impact the youth, and it is extra, extra special because oftentimes our kids are forgotten about until they reach the other facilities,” Tillman Sullivan said.

She said that through their work, MentorKids will positively teach life skills and do prevention work so that individuals can break cycles within their families.

Once the 10K Reasons meeting concluded, they collected nominations for the next nonprofits to present at the November 19 meeting. They plan to announce them on their Facebook page at a later date.
