Daviess County Public Schools on Tuesday announced recipients of the district’s three Teachers of the Year as well as the Customer Service and Support Professional staff members of the year. The awards recognize “outstanding staff members who exemplify the highest ideals of the DCPS mission.”
According to a release, the Teacher of the Year Awards showcase teachers who exemplify and embody the characteristics of great teachers in the district.
“These characteristics include a passion for teaching and learning, a student-centered approach to all they do, an ability to develop and maintain positive relationships, a commitment to a growth mindset, and a dedicated team player attitude. Each of these award recipients showcases these characteristics in all that they do,” the release says.
This year’s award recipients are:
2024 Elementary School Teacher of the Year
Deana Anderson – Southern Oaks Elementary School
2024 Middle School Teacher of the Year
Melissa Embry – Daviess County Middle School
2024 High School Teacher of the Year
Misty Dillbeck- Apollo High School
According to DCPS, the Support Professional and Customer Service awards honor individuals “who showcase kindness, dependability, and an exemplary way of making families and students feel welcome, challenging students to do their best.”

2024 Customer Service Award
Stephanie Keelin – Daviess County Middle School (Keelin served as the FRYSC at Apollo High School at the time of the award nomination and selection she now serves in the same role at Daviess County Middle School.)
DCPS announces new district logo
Also during opening day ceremonies, Daviess County Public Schools unveiled a new logo with a focus on Together for Kids.

“This is part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students,” according to a release from DCPS. “This new logo puts a focus on all high schools with color and design, while adhering to the themes of achievement, learning, and excellence. The traditional DCPS Star Kids continues to be prominent, continuing a tradition to represent all children enrolled in Daviess County Public Schools.”
Superintendent Charles Broughton expressed excitement about the new logo and its significance.
“Our new logo and motto, ‘Together for Kids,’ encapsulates the heart of what Daviess County Public Schools stands for,” Broughton said. “We believe that by coming together as educators, families, and community partners, we can create a nurturing environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. We can be confident in being together for kids because public schools work.”
