Owensboro Community & Technical College is offering a new course focused on artificial intelligence as part of a pilot project with three other KCTCS colleges. The course will introduce the foundations of AI and explore key concepts that include generative AI, machine learning, and natural language processing.
Additional topics will include exploring the impact of AI on industries, practical skills for the digital workforce, efficient use of AI, and the ethical responsibilities of implementing AI.
“We are excited to be one of the first colleges to offer this course focused on how AI can be used and its impact on the workplace,” said OCTC President Dr. Scott Williams.
Offered through the Computer & Information Technologies (CIT) program, this second bi-term fall course is called CIT 102: Introduction to AI in the Workplace. It will run from October 21 through December 15, 2024. The course is a three-credit hour offering and has no pre- or co-requisites. The course is not a requirement for any academic program at this time and is offered as an elective.
Calli Young will be the instructor for this online course. She is a graduate of OCTC’s CIT program, earning honors as the program’s Outstanding Student while completing her Associate in Applied Science degree. She then transferred to Murray State University to earning a bachelor’s degree and recently earned a master’s degree from Morehead State University.
If your employer offers a tuition assistance program, OCTC can work with them to set up third-party billing for this course. Email [email protected] requesting to be billed for the cost of the course, and that payment will be made directly to the college.
